Ore Iyawo (Bride's Friends)

Have you ever wondered why you see a particular set of Ladies probably wearing an attire different from what other guests are Wearing? They are the bride's friends called ORE IYAWO in Yoruba Language especially in Nigeria. More than just wearing a different attire and dancing with the bride on her wedding day, their role is very versatile and sometimes tasking. Ore Iyawo serve practical purposes. During the hectic time of planning the wedding, they do menial tasks, fun errands for the bride and sometimes help her in distributing the Aso-Ebi (attires for the guests) to families and friends, assist her in choosing her wedding gown, cake design, decor, colors of the day, wrapping the engagement requirements called ERU IYAWO etc. Wedding planning could be tasking and overwhelming for a DIY bride-to-be who is not hiring a wedding planner, Ore Iyawo must make themselves available for her till the wedding day.

At the reception, they sometimes serve as ushers, usher the guests to their seats, distribute the programs, assist the waiters in serving the foods/refreshments, most importantly reliving and lifting the work load off the bride and ensure she enjoys her memorable day.
